About Maristan Healing
Faith-Rooted Therapy & Holistic Care

Healing the whole you. Reviving the Spirit of Holistic Healing

If you’ve been carrying a lot,
you’re not alone

Maristan Healing was born from a simple truth: many people in our communities struggle to find mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual care hub that truly honours their identity, faith, and lived experience. Inspired by the legacy of the historic bimaristan—compassionate hospitals where healing addressed mind, body, and spirit together—we’re reviving this tradition for today — so you can be supported with dignity, clarity, and care.

Maybe you’ve been holding it together on the outside — but inside it feels like something is always running in the background: worry, pressure, overthinking, headaches, illnesses or just feeling “off”.

You might not even know how to explain it clearly. You just know you don’t feel like yourself — and you want to feel lighter.

And sometimes it’s not just emotional. Stress can show up in the body too: sleep changes, low energy, aches and pains, tension, headaches, brain fog, cravings, and feeling worn down.

Many people come to us because they want support that feels culturally aware and values-honouring — without having to over-explain their background, family dynamics, or what matters most. We welcome clients of all backgrounds, and we have specialist experience supporting Muslim clients.

Meet the founder

Maristan Healing was founded by Lorraine after a deeply personal experience of loss shaped her commitment to emotionally supporting others and led her into her psychotherapeutic journey.

Lorraine’s work has been shaped by years of supporting individuals and families within community and psychological settings, including work across NHS providers, community services, education settings, EAP providers, and trauma specialist services.

After years of working with the community in the field of psychology, Lorraine became increasingly aware of the need for a space where people could be supported as whole human beings — not only psychologically, but also physically, cognitively, socially, culturally, and spiritually.

Maristan Healing was created to bridge that gap.

Inspired by the historic maristan model of care, the vision is to revive a holistic approach to healing: one that recognises the connection between a person’s inner world, outer circumstances, body, mind, relationships, faith, and lived experience.

Early Muslim physicians such as Al-Balkhi recognised that emotional distress could affect the body as well as the soul. In his work on the “sustenance of bodies and souls,” later translated and discussed by Malik Badri, Al-Balkhi described how fears, sadness, and obsessive thoughts could disturb a person’s wellbeing if left unaddressed.

At its heart, Maristan Healing exists to offer support that is compassionate, clinically thoughtful, culturally sensitive, and rooted in dignity.
